Polished Stainless Steel Bench crafted by Metal Masters West Wales Ltd

Metal Masters West Wales Ltd were commissioned to produce stainless steel benches to be situated at the SA1 Waterfront in Swansea Bay. Using tools, machines and accessories supplied by Data here we can see another example of some quality workmanship from one of our customers.

Phil Pritchard, the owner of Metal Masters has had to achieve a very high standard finish to eradicate the high risk of rust as the benches are situated at the waterfront (very salty air). The finish required to meet the contractor’s requirements is 0.5RA (the RA value is the Roughness Average in microns – in layman’s terms it’s the difference between the peaks and grooves on the surface of the stainless steel only visible via a microscope – the less the difference between the two the lower the RA value).

The finishing polish was achieved using a Fein “ Grit ” machine, which is the GX75 Belt Linisher together with the GXC Centreless Polishing Module and a very fine non woven abrasive belt that Data supplied.

In this video you will see that Phil has his hands on the tube, but this is not because he is pushing it, he is merely supporting it. The material is fed through automatically. Phil does intend in investing in suitable roller supports in the near future to make the task even easier.

Record Power C26 Plus – Universal Woodworking Machine – Review

At our recent woodworking event held at our Cardiff branch we were visited by representatives from Record Power. During the show they demonstrated some of their machinery.  Our  machinery expert Dave Union was on hand to review some of the machines.

Third up is the C26 Plus Univeral Woodworker :

Peter Webb from Record Power demonstrated this machine to a crowd of enthusiasts. This machine has 3 class1 x 2hp motors and the machine has a planer thicknesser, circular saw, spindle moulder and sliding fence with swing arm. What impressed the enthusiasts the most was the planer thicknesser because of its tersa knife set up. This enables the user to quickly change blades once they are blunt by either reversing or replacing the blade in less than 4 minutes with no resetting involved.  This means reduced setting up times and more user time.  This an all round serious kit and a welcome addition to any workshop with limited space.

Record Power Maxi 1 Heavy Duty Woodturning Lathe – Review

At our recent woodworking event held at our Cardiff branch we were visited by representatives from Record Power. During the show they demonstrated some of their machinery.  Our  machinery expert Dave Union was on hand to review some of the machines.

Second up is the Maxi 1 Lathe :

Record has combined with Woodfast to produce a fine machine for the serious woodturner. The machine is very heavily built with extensive use of cast iron throughout. With electronic speed control this allows the machine to be operated simply by the user at a speed which is comfortable.  People attending our woodworking show saw the machine being demonstrated with little or no vibration.

The key features were the swivel head,  heavy duty cast iron stand and legs, electronic variable speed driven by six pulleys, sturdy 1” diameter toolrest spindle and a switch that can be mounted anywhere on the machine.

Other features are 37” between centres, 20” swing over the bed, maximum bowl diameter 30”, speeds from 50-3850rpm and a 1.5hp motor.
